Climbing plants
Climbing plants are characterised by their ability to grow in length, so as to form large blankets of leaves and flowers. Shrubs and suffruticious plants, they often have thin trunks and need some form of support to lean on. Twining climbers, however, literally wrap themselves around a living or inert support.
They are extremely common as they are easy to cultivate and produce abundant leaves and flowers. Ivy, hydrangeas, wisteria and passion-flowers are perfect plants for covering walls, trellises and gazebos with a cool, flowery frock.
